• UPDATE (Aug 9, 2010)

Hi guys, there won't be any new content in the next few months, especially related to any Facebook stuff. I'm really tied up with a couple of other websites I'm developing. When things die down, I'll be back with more awesome imacros scripts. Until then - keep your info private & don't post things you don't want to go public! - Cynthia

Email FAQ

By Cynthia On January 14, 2010 No Comments

I get quite a bit of mail, sometimes asking me pretty much the same questions. Here is my attempt to try to help you, while keeping me focused on what needs to be done. As I mentioned on the sidebar, if you e-mail me something that has already been addressed in this FAQ, you likely won’t get a response. But if it’s not on this FAQ, please go right ahead and e-mail me!

Facebook Questions

How do I delete all my Facebook pages?
Read this post. Someone pasted a script that worked for them, but I couldn’t get it to work. Might work for you so give it a shot and leave a comment whether it worked/didn’t work.

Why doesn’t the imacros script work for me?
Sorry, I don’t know. It has worked for hundreds of people who have used this script. You should post the reasons why it didn’t work for you in the Facebook post itself so other people who have the same problem can offer some advice.

Can I delete all the comments I left in groups, other people’s photos, and people’s walls?
There’s no easy way to do it, but yes you can delete it manually but it can’t be done using an imacros script.

Osdate Dating System Questions

Can you help me with <insert something related to Osdate installation or some other problem>?

Unfortunately, I will no longer reply to Osdate-related emails, because I found that I was taking too much of my time trying to help people – especially when there’s a lot I don’t remember, including which files to change.

It’s been over a year since I’ve used Osdate, and frankly don’t remember much about the system. I wrote the tutorials because I knew I would forget everything, and the knowledge I had would be lost. I spent a lot of time writing the tutorials to help other webmasters as much as possible given what I had experienced.

Beyond these Osdate tutorials I wrote, your best bet is to ask an Osdate programmer on the Osdate forum for help. The people on there are really nice, helpful, and passionate about what they do.

Do you recommend I create a dating site using Osdate?

Well, yes and no. Yes if you’re really interested in having your own dating site. Osdate is FREE – nothing beats that! You will get a good experience from working with it, and networking with other Osdate webmasters. And yes if you’re good at online marketing, and yes if you have knowledge of html and PHP.

No if you’re in it because you’re excited about how much money you’ll make from it. After all, if you charge $10/month for membership, multiply that by 100 members, that’s an extra $1000 a month! Newsflash: you probably won’t make more than $10 from it. Sorry that was harsh. There’s a thread on the Osdate forum about how much people make – and the majority (99%, probably?) are not making any money apart from a few cents from Adsense.

There are many reasons for this, and it’s not really Osdate’s fault. You can have the BEST looking dating site in the world, but if you don’t know how to promote it and get fresh members, it will sink quicker than a hippo on quicksand. The key words being “fresh members.” Unlike other business models, the dating one requires continuous effort to attract new members.

If your site is good – the males will find their partners and leave (and you will need new members). If your site sucks – males cannot find suitable dating partners (for whatever reason), but you will need to have a fresh supply of female members or they won’t login as often. Dating is tricky and not so fun and easy as it looks.

If you DO decide to jump in, I recommend you — read this carefully – CHOOSE A NICHE. What is a niche? A niche is something like – dating for tall guys (for women who like tall guys), dating for guys under 5’8 (for women who don’t mind dating shorter guys), dating for guys who like a woman with some curves (for curvy women – bbw), dating for guys who don’t want children (seriously there’s one out there). You get my point.

There are already enough generic dating sites like Lavalife, Match.com, Eharmony, Singles net, Mate1, Yahoo Personals, Plenty of Fish, etc. To differentiate yourself and have some chance of success, go niche.

Networking Questions

I’ll update this section a bit later since I plan to create a Facebook account specifically for networking with other webmasters and entrepreneurs. That’d be a lot easier to manage than just through e-mail, and I can share useful stuff related to my project.

Advertising Questions

Are you interested in a partnership / can I advertise on your site?
Email me with details (your site and your offer) and I’ll get back to you if I’m interested.
