How To Delete All Facebook Groups And Wall Posts From Facebook Using Imacros

comment 527 Comments Written by Cynthia on August 29, 2009 – 12:30 am

Facebook has changed, please read my updated note at the bottom of this post

A little story time before we get into the technical details.

I have an old unused Facebook account that I was actively on for the past 2 years. But I stopped using it at a point because there was too much group spam in my Facebook inbox. You know those annoying groups that send you messages once per day, multiply that by X number of groups you have, then multiply it by about 10%, and you get an inbox full of crap you don’t really care about – daily.

I was busy at the time, and I was simply too lazy to delete my groups manually. So I abandoned the profile, opened a new one, and added back people I wanted to keep in touch with.

Fast forward to today. I now know how to use imacros for automating a lot of my tasks! Armed with this new knowledge, I created a simple imacros script, looped it about 200 times, walked away to get some snacks, came back…Done!

All 200 something Facebook Groups are gone from my profile! Okay with the exception of 3 groups that I created myself. Those are still there. But my profile is now spic and span.

It is so damn cool I cannot express it in words. You really just need to try it yourself.

I repeated the same thing with deleting wall posts – this was a little more buggy, but I still managed to get it to work. It messes up at some point and shows “failures” but that’s alright. Better than deleting all of them manually one by one. You’d get carpel tunnel in no time from that.

Download Imacros

If you don’t know what imacros is, you might want to read up on it here. It looks a bit intimidating at first, but imacros is seriously the easiest automation software/plugin to use.

I recommend imacros for Firefox. You can install the plugin here.

To open up imacros in the sidebar, press F8. Once you’ve got imacros on your Firefox, do a mock record – meaning, go to Play > Record > Then click Stop right away. Then click Save. Enter a descriptive name for it like “delete Facebook groups .” You should now see it in the left sidebar. Right click on the .iim file and go to “edit macro.”

The Imacros Script (Delete All Facebook groups) – Facebook has changed, please read my update note at the bottom of this post

Paste in:

VERSION BUILD=6111228 RECORDER=FX <– note that this line will be different if you have a different version of imacros
TAB T=1
SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
SET !TIMEOUT 100
SET !DIALOGMANAGER NO
TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:Leave<SP>Group
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:remove&&VALUE:Remove
WAIT SECONDS=2

Now you should be already on the Facebook Groups page itself BEFORE running this macro. When I ran it, there was one instance of a timeout, but that didn’t stop the script itself, so just click “close” on the timeout notice when you see it and it’ll be fine.

*** IMPORTANT *** Remember to click Play(loop) when running this macro and specify however many groups you have. This will loop the script, so it’ll run X amount of times.

You may be wondering… well, what if I don’t want to delete ALL my groups? Well, then it will be a bit tricky. What I’d do is, open these groups in a new tab, so when you’ve wiped out all the groups, you can add them back easily.

The Imacros Script (Delete All Facebook Wall Posts) - Facebook has changed, please read my update note at the bottom of this post

Repeat the same thing. Go to Play > Record > Then click Stop right away. Click save, enter a name, and then edit the .iim file.

Then paste in:

VERSION BUILD=6111228 RECORDER=FX
TAB T=1
SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
SET !TIMEOUT 100
SET !DIALOGMANAGER NO
TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
WAIT SECONDS=3
TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
WAIT SECONDS=3
TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
WAIT SECONDS=3
TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
WAIT SECONDS=3
TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
WAIT SECONDS=3
REFRESH

You may get multiple errors when running this, that’s why I add in “refresh” at the end of the script so it’ll refresh the page. It’s very likely that you have to make some edits or changes. You may need to click “older posts” on your Facebook wall, especially closer to the end of your wall posts. This script is easy to modify and should be easy to understand. I’m assuming you have at least some basic knowledge of it.

***UPDATE*** (Nov 5, 2011)
Facebook made changes recently (as they like to do all the time) that make the iMacros scripts I posted become outdated.

Several commenters have posted ones that have worked for them (thank you!). Please scroll down to the NEWEST comments.

I am no longer an active Facebook user, so there will probably be no new scripts posted by me unless I start using it again and needing to delete a massive amount of posts.

Keep in mind that if you post any Facebook scripts, please use Pastebin to copy your code to it because WordPress seems to strip the html in my comments.

    i joined to many groups for the mafia wars game to get more ppl in my mafia and free gift, been looking how i could leave all groups,

  2. Oh cool, that’s awesome! Didn’t think people would use it for mafia wars, but yeah that’s a really good idea actually.

  3. Have you ever created a macro for deleting multiply people off your friends list in Facebook?

    By Sherry on Sep 21, 2009 | Reply
  4. @Sherry – No I haven’t, because I haven’t had a need to delete people from my friends list! I just create new FB accounts ;)

    Sorry I won’t be able to test it for you, since I don’t want to delete anyone on my list, but here are instructions you can follow to create your own.

    1. First, if you want to delete specific people, put them all into a new Friend List.
    2. Fire up imacros and record yourself deleting everyone down the page by clicking on the “X” button. (In theory this should work but sometimes it doesn’t
    3. Stop it, and save it.

    Now the next time you want to delete more people, just put them in this Friend List for removal, and just run the macro.

    It’s not exactly automated, but that’s what I can think of.

    By Cynthia on Sep 22, 2009 | Reply
  5. Or, if you’re thinking ahead and have people you MAY want to get rid of in the future, stick them in that Friend List to begin with. Then it’ll be easier later on to remove them.

  6. Hey, I am completely new to this, but it worked so good to clear up my facebook…but now I have run into the problem of it not continuing b/c of the older posts button preventing it…I know you mentioned this in your write-up , but i have no idea how to program that step in…thanks!

  7. thank you so much.! I will leave this on for a few years and it will delete them all :P .. I guess that’s the only GUI way.. If only you could delete them by executing the JavaScript function directly.. Rather than seeing button clicks or whatever..
    I suggest you record the “Just ” and add that to the top of the macro if you want to delete just your wall posts.

  8. also important note is that Facebook only keeps roughly 2 months tops worth of of Facebook posts.. For someone who posts like 25 posts a day that is. so I guess overall that’s about 1500 posts…
    Just so people who have been years with Facebook don’t get discouraged and think they will need to run this for years.

  9. Thank you THank you Thank you!!
    Your article just pimped up my profile by 500%.
    Now I can worry about other stuff.
    YOu rock.
    Much love.

  18. If you are so inclined, you can use the service at http://de.cipr.us and outsource the cleaning up of your profile. It costs you a few bucks, but it works on Twitter and Facebook profiles.

  19. @Angela – If it stops continuing, you just need to stop the imacro, click the “older posts” and run the imacro again.

    @Matt – What to do so it leaves the first two wall posts alone – well, you need to program it differently. I think it may be as simple as changing the TAG POS=1 part to a different number. Unfortunately I can’t test it out since I don’t want to delete any of my current wall posts. Just try to delete the first page of wall posts (excluding the first 2 wall posts), and then look in the script to see how it’s different than mine. Then report back :)

    @Nixa – thanks for the fan page imacro! I’m not ready to delete my fan pages yet (I love many of them) so I will pass on it for now ;)

    @Sixpanel – It didn’t delete anything at all? Sometimes Facebook changes their interface, and things stop working. But it seems to be working for other people. What happens when you run the script?

  25. This script requires your language to be set to English. Perhaps note that. Also, how do you deal with the “Older Posts” button?

    Great script, though.

  29. PLEASE can someone tell me why I can’t get this to work? I am working on a Mac but using Firefox. When I open it up it tells me “Can not open null path to read macros.
    Would you like to correct path settings now?” what do I click? Either way, it won’t let me PLAY, REC & SAVE. It will record and stop but won’t play or save????

    PLEASE HELP ME :)

  30. Worked like a charm. Made a couple of modifications such as speed from 3 secs to 1 sec. I also copied and pasted the program to about 3 times the original length which made it run perfectly. Deleted 3 months of wall posts in about a half an hour. It would have taken me a whole day to do it manually. I have alot of friends on FB and there were a TON of wall posts…especially from the time between T’giving and Xmas. I had literally hundreds of posts to delete. Thx Cynthia ; ))

  31. @gamma: click yes and then just go to path.. put in where it will save it.
    then just close the window. if any other message pops up just click yes.
    Now click on edit and there click on the button “activate macrolist” or maybe “refresh macroliste” – I have the german version.

    Done :)
    Now you can use it.
    Hope I could help.

  56. *** Ok lemme try to answer a couple of q’s for you guys ***

    About deleting fan pages – I mentioned this earlier in my survey (if you got a chance to take it).

    You either do it with an imacros script, or you use a slightly longer method but it works 100% and still saves you loads of time doing it by hand.

    I gave it some thought, and I’m thinking of releasing a written copy of the instructions soon instead of a video. I can write it up in about an hour, vs. recording on video and taking ages to edit it (ok I’m slow and perfectionist :D). That way, I’m not taking up too much of my time when I should be working on my other sites and I can help you guys out.

    Sounds good? Hell yeah hope so lol. Okay, stay tuned.

    @ costa miguel Vilombo – Umm…what system? If you’re talking about new comment notifications, there should be a link in the e-mails to unsubscribe.

    If you can’t open the imacros sidebar using F8 when Firefox is opened, go to View > Sidebar > iOpus Imacros. That should work!

    Groups and Pages are different. To see all your groups go to:
    http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/groups.php?id=123456 (replace 123456 with your own ID #)

    To see all your Pages, go to:
    http://www.facebook.com/social_graph.php?node_id=123456&filter=fanned (replace 123456 with your own ID #)

    To edit an imacros file, open up your imacros sidebar in Firefox, right click on an .iim file, and click on “edit macros.” Just remember go to File > Save when you’re done editing or you’ll lose your changes!

    To everyone else who couldn’t get this work, I’m sorry..Facebook can be a pain, and sometimes it just doesn’t work. Could be that you ran it on a different page, or Facebook is lagging, or you need to increase the seconds between deleting posts.

    If you learn more about imacros, you could just start deleting posts yourself and look into what the script looks like. That’s how I came up with the scripts.

    Ms. Perla,

    I found your script to be very innovative and helpful. However, after running it for a while, while remaining at the computer, Facebook stated I have no more posts, which is, in fact, a blantant lie. I’ve tried refreshing it, logging in and out multiple time, but to no avail. Nothing seems to work at all, nothing is visible anymore.

  59. Ok. Firstly I am lost when it comes to this. I downloaded the imacros add on. Now what do I do? I dont get the whole play record save bit. And the F8 buton on my laptop is a volume buton, so all it does is turns down the volume.

    I wouldnt have a clue where to start. I can bring up the options menu for imacros, by clicking on Tools/addons and then at the imacros add on is has options disable or uninstall.

  68. Hi,

    This works great. I tweaked a bit to add a line to click on ‘Older posts’ at the beginning of each iteration. I also increased the wait time, it seems to cut down or eliminate the problems with “Failure to hide minifeed story”. At least when I was experimenting, it seemed like a 1 second wait led to a lot of problems with “Failure to hide minifeed story”. Maybe Facebook chokes if actions are too close together? Anyway once I spread things out a bit with the longer wait, it became pretty stable and chewed through hundreds of posts without blinking.

  69. One thing that isn’t showing up properly in the material I copied and pasted above is that the line to click on Older Posts should actually be…

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:Older<SP>Posts

    i.e. Older and Posts should be separated by <SP>

    I hope that displays properly. I think because there was a < and a > around SP, it was being interpreted as HTML and disappearing.

But then when it got to the “older posts” I keep getting an error message that says “this status update is identical to the previous one” and that prevents the script from continuing to run. These are wall posts from about 2yrs ago. Advice?

  110. I used the following to delete the game posts on my facebook wall but leave the real ones. I used wildcards in the link under the “Remove” button and used “story_type” to indicate which posts to remove.

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=HREF:http://www.facebook.com/ajax/minifeed/remove_confirm.php?story_id=div_story_*&profile_id=713409256&story_key=*&story_type=63*
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
    WAIT SECONDS=2

    This worked for me to remove all Zoo posts however no guarantees and I’d suggest trying small scale to not loose your real ones.

    Instead of using my group wall (which displays newest to oldest), I used the discussions tab for postings because it displays from oldest to newest.

  120. Hi Cynthia,

    I’m not having any luck on Mac.

    Your script has:
    VERSION BUILD=6111228 RECORDER=FX <– note that this line will be different if you have a different version of imacros

    At the top, but I have version 6.7.0.1?

    Your version goes through the motions but doesnt affect the number of groups I'm stuck in. Also clarification on exactly which page we are supposed to be on would be ideal- I think FB have changed things around.

    It really does seem easier to start a fresh account! I'd rather not though.
    Some Mac specific step by step would help.
    THanks

If not, every time the script reload the page, the posts dissapears, and the page become blank just with “Andres has no recent post”, and the “older posts” below, without any messages to see or delete. 127. OK, I figured out a simple method that works:

    VERSION BUILD=304809 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1
    URL GOTO=http://www.facebook.com/posted.php?id=48604505
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:Remove
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:delete_story&&VALUE:Delete
    WAIT SECONDS=1

    I’m not sure if everyone’s “posted” url is the same. On your profile page though, there should be a box on the lower left tilted links. Copy the url of that, and stick it in, and you’re good to go. It solves the problem of having to refresh things yourself.

  135. Hey, I’ve been reading through all the comments I could, and I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere:

    I don’t care about what is on MY wall. What I would like to do is delete comments that III posted on other peoples walls years ago. I tried making a script that would keep clicking older posts, just to get me to the ones i had to delete (over 3 years back) but had no luck.

    Ideally, I only need the script to continuously click ‘Older Posts’ on SOMEONE ELSES wall, at least 200 times. It doesn’t need to delete them or anything, I can do that myself.

    Thank you SO much (in advance :P)

    Mine was doing one loop then would just stop working. So after a lot of trying to fix it….

    Also, don’t copy the top line, it’s automatically in the script and depends on your version.

  159. My problem is that there are two different types of posts on the wall. One statuses by me, which can be deleted by going to ‘X’ and remove post, and the other posts by other people, media and apps, which open up an additional list with Remove Post…, Report Abuse… etc before the past ‘Remove post’ dialogue box.

    I tried making separate scripts. Any script you’ve posted with ‘delete story&&’ in them don’t work at all. I managed with two different scripts, but they stop as soon as they encounter a post they can’t close.

  160. Hello Cynthia and all,

    nice page to read. My problem has surfaced last Wednesday (Oct 27): I’m not able to delete my wall posts anymore, including “status” and “recent activities”. The “remove” button just doesn’t show up, same thing with the “x” at the notifications page. I have no idea why. There seems to have been no warning.

    On the other hand, the “x” at the right-hand corner in the newsfeed of my friends’ posts still shows up, as well as in any commentary I make or receive.

    Please help !

  165. I had to play around with the new script Boerie posted to get a working script again. One thing is I had to add the first 3 lines from the old script, then I had to reword the action. Once I had it working I simply edited it to repeat the actions (but not the header lines) for 3 repetitions and then I just run it in a loop.

  168. For the record facebook never deletes anything even when you press delete(hence why its called remove legally), they are actually just “hiding” it and making it invisible, but like you guys I wish to have a clean fresh looking facebook, but ALMOST no luck with any of these macros, Nonna2Three’s macro revision did delete a single post, and a post by another person no less it was quite amazing, but nothing else has been deleted and the script broke immediately on a second use :(

    By Montana on Nov 8, 2010 | Reply
  169. Update! use boerie’s link BUT take out the following: Lines 6. 7. and 9. they cause the script to break for some reason.

    By Montana on Nov 8, 2010 | Reply
  170. So I’ve also been thinking for a while. Maybe we, or someone who’s got more experience coding, should make a script that edits your posts and replaces what you’ve said with a “.” or anything meaningless. This way maybe we can actually achieve deletedness, even though it doesn’t delete it.

    I’m sure fb keep backups, but still.

    By the way guys, you are incredible, I’m not sure we can all thank you enough for your scripts. That’s pure joy, thank you!

  171. Hi there,

    I had to make some changes to the script, as it seems FB have changed the UI in the meantime, in-case anyone finds it useful, here’s what I use:

    I play it 100 times on loop, and click older posts manually:

    VERSION BUILD=7031111 RECORDER=FX
    SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
    SET !TIMEOUT_STEP 1
    TAB T=1
    URL GOTO=http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622#!/username
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=title:Remove
    WAIT SECONDS=1
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=1
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=VALUE:RemovePost
    WAIT SECONDS=1

  172. Great post…Nonna2Three IS MY HERO…the script in his yfrog link worked for me.

    By Rayooo on Nov 26, 2010 | Reply
  173. Hey, after a lot of research of my own with this script i found one that works for me.

    THIS IS WORKS FOR SOME POSTS THAT DO NOT REMOVE. (For most people)

    NOTE: for YOUR status on facebook this code is the best:

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:RemovePost
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost

    BUT…this will NOT work for posts by mates, apps, etc.. instead it is THIS code:

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=title:Remove
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=VALUE:RemovePost

    The soultion i come up with? Merage them together… sometimes some codes may not work, (if it cannot find a status by you, or a post from a mate or app) but will then do the next code successfully..

    THIS IS THE FULL CODE I USE THAT WORKS 99% OF THE TIME:

    You have to be on your facebook wall and have clicked older posts by yourself before.

    The best way to do get rid of all your *posts*:

    A: Get Firefox
    B: Get Greasemonkey plugin
    C: Start up this script in Greasmonkey: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/92664
    D: And fire away!

    Deleted all my posts (in the hundreds) > 15 minutes

  198. Hi Cynthia,

    On my wall in FB, how do I delete something under RECENT ACTIVITY which I posted? It’s an edit I did under my STATUS and the change came up under RECENT ACTIVITY. I have tried to hover over the posting but nothing comes up for me to delete that line. I have also gotten as far as selecting [JUST MY NAME] on the same line as SETTINGS (just above the RECENT ACTIVITY of my wall posting) and nothing happens. I very much would LOVE to delete two postings on my wall (under RECENT ACTIVITY) which FB entered when I edited something under STATUS. Thanks and happy new year!

  199. @Lisa – I tested it out on my Facebook, but I can delete any of the lines that’s under Recent Activity. Every single entry pops up a “remove post” option.

    If you’re okay with it, send me a screenshot of it to my e-mail and I’ll have a look for you.

  205. This may sound like a dumb question, but is there a way to tweak the script to delete past a certain date point – for example, I’d like to keep a week or month of content up, but everything past that point needs to be tossed?

  207. I copied over the macro 100% complete as quentin posted in his post on the 6th of January. It starts to work but it goes and clicks on the first one giving me the three usual choices of delete this post, mark as spam or report as abuse. It hangs up right there. I don’t know why it is not working on mine. I am running in Firefox so I don’t think that this is causing a problem with it. Basically this gets hung up on line 7 where it is told to wait 2 seconds. It goes up to 10 seconds and then it just stops. It doesn’t go past that one. Any ideas of why it will not delete the posts?

  208. Ok I got it to work but I can’t get pass this line:

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost

    I get it to select the delete button and then it brings up the window asking if I am sure that I want to delete the message and that is as far as I got.

    By glucola on Jan 8, 2011 | Reply
  209. John: you have to set the maximum to 999 (or any high number…)

  210. I got it to work perfectly for me. I did add a lot of extra lines so if it runs out because of the older posts thing then delete them and add that command. I will do that later. Also on the website addy I added a (blah blah blah) section in there so make sure that you don’t copy that into the macro or it won’t work. Basically you just copy over the website addy that shows when you look at your profile. I hope it helps

I encounter the error message “Failure to hide minifeed story,” every time I try to delete these posts. The posts range in date from 2006-2007. I have tried Quentin’s, James’, and Mike’s codes, none of which removed these older posts. I have also tried refreshing the page right before the annoying message pops up and that does not work. I’ve marked as spam and that does not work. Does anyone have a solution to override this “Failure to hide minifeed story” for older posts dating from 2006-2007?

  234. Ok so I finallly figured out how to get this to work for all those of you who are confussed and have like no idea. It took me a while to get this at first but after a few trial and errors I got it to work.

    Here is the step by step-

    1. Copy quentin’s code from the link. (I used the second half of the code where is says submit a correction or amendment below)

    2. Make sure you have the program installed and open.

    3. Click as mentioned above- play- record- stop.

    4. Save your file.

    5. Your file should show up somewhere on the list. When you find it right click and click on Edit Macro.

    6. When you click this a pop up window containing some code should open up.

    7. Delete the current code that is listed and paste in the code that quentin has given us.

    8. Click save & close

    9. Now hit play and you should be all set!

    10. on the bottom it should say current and next to that max. Set max to something like 100 and you should get the script to keep running. Max is set to 3 which just means it will only delete 3 posts and then it stops. When you set it to 100 it deletes 100 posts at a time. So max is the number of posts you wish to delete.

    11. Please remember that you must be logged into your facebook account for this to work.

    12. When you hit play you should automatically see the stuff on the left changes to a bunch of highlighted code stuff. This means the script is working.

    If you have any questions or need anymore help post your comments here and I will be glad to help you. John :)

  235. Hey, I am trying to delete all my groups from my fb account however when I try using the code provided here for the macros it will not do anything.

  237. John,

    The problem isn’t with running the script, it’s with the script not working. It seems to remove posts selectively, or stall when facebook prompts its “Are you sure? [Remove]” message box.

    By Josh on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  238. I really appreciate you helping us John, I reeaaaally suck when it comes to this stuff.
    I did exactly as you said but it isn’t working. It deletes the first 2 or 3 posts and then it stops, as Josh said.
    Is there any other script I should try or is the problem not in the script?

    By Sara on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  239. @josh
    @sarah

    No problem.. Just go to step 10 and follow that step. You should see something on the bottom of the side bar that says max. Under that there is the number 3 which would explain why you only get 3 posts removed at a time. You need to change the number 3 to something higher. I did 1000 and then I clicked play loop and this did the trick. The only problem is that on your facebook profile you need to click on older posts down at the bottom so facebook can keep displaying older posts because the script does not know to click older posts so when your posts get deleted and there is nothing on your wall the script will keep running just not delete anything. So when you click older posts it displays more posts on your page.

    So remember that max is the number of posts you want the script to delete before it stops. Change it from 3 to something like 1000 or whatever many posts you wish to delete and then play loop. Sit back and get some hot chocolate or and your all set! :)

  240. Sara,

    You want to run iMacros using the “Play (Loop)” button at the very bottom. The value for “Max:” which is above the play(loop) button defaults to 3 so change it to 99999 or a high number like that.

    The script deletes down to “Older Posts” and I’ve found it’s easier to scroll to the bottom in the beginning and manually click on older posts (do this a few times) then run the script.

    John,

    I had problems with the script in the beta release of firefox 4 but it runs fine in the released version of firefox (3.6.13)

    By Royce Edwards on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  241. @josh
    @sarah

    Sorry I should have specified. There was a typo. step 9 and 10 should be reversed. So before you hit play you should follow step 10 and then do step 9. That was my fault.

  242. @sarah

    Sorry I have t3.6 version of firefox so I had no problems. However if you take a look at the code there is something there that says-

    WAIT SECONDS=2

    This shows up a few times in the code. Anyways if you change each 2 to a 0 it keeps the script running faster so you will not have to wait 2 seconds and it works faster.

  243. I keep getting this error: Runtime Error: Invalid Data Source_ Line value:5, line:13 do not understand what this means at all. still cannot get this to work at all. HELP!!!!!!!

  247. @debbie

    Ok so please rember to set your max and then hit play. If you hit play before and then change the max to 100 it may not work.

    So you should set your max before you hit play loop. If it did 4 and stopped at least that tells me it did something. After setting your max and hitting play loop let me know if you still have the same problem.

  248. This macro things doesnt work:/

    By Marcus on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  249. @Marcus

    You are sure to have followed every step carefully. Remember when doing steps 6 and 7 that you must 1st remove the code given in the pop up window or this will not work. I had the same problem where nothing was working and I found I had forgotten to delete the code in the pop up window before pasting the correct code in. If this is not your case and you did this correctly then I can say make sure you are using firefox and have the latest version because some people have tried with older versions of the program and it does not work. Let me know if this problem continues

  250. hi, im not sure if you’re having probs with some things…

    i’ve finally got mine working again, in addition to John’s instructions above:

    I had to turn the line with “dialogmanager” into a note/comment using the apostrophe sign before SET, so that the line doesn’t run, on mine it crashes at that point
    ‘ SET !DIALOGMANAGER NO

    also I think to get it to recognise “Older Posts” bit, add the in between Older AND Posts (like for “Remove Post” ) – im not sure if this comment box will delete the ‘less than’ and ‘greater than’ signs and everything in between them, when message gets posted up.

    so that at the bottom of the macro, this will look like
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:OlderPosts
    WAIT SECONDS=3

    hope this helps

    By andy on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  251. ok – i just noticed it does delete things…

    to clarify, between: “Remove” and “Post” is the command for SPACE, which is: “less than sign” SP “greater than sign” – ie. Remove*SP*Post (replace the * signs with the relevant sign)

    this is same for between “Older” and “Posts”, Older*SP*Posts (replace the * signs with the relevant sign)

    hopefully that makes it a bit clearer – unless as above, my symbols gets deleted !!!

  253. VERSION BUILD=1110311 RECORDER=FX

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost
    WAIT SECONDS=2

    with the relevant space coding in between “Remove” and “Post…”
    eg. ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:Remove Post

    and at the end you might like to add: (with space coding between “Older” and “Posts”)
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:Older Posts
    WAIT SECONDS=2

    this will open up your older posts from your wall to be ready for deletion –
    save and close (or exit) would do fine. Check in your folder that the file is should be saved as an “.iim” file not “.txt” file – but it will be clear enough if it hasn’t.

    good luck

  254. also i dont know if it makes much difference

    with “…” these 3 dots – I found the code I copied:

    in the 1st “Remove Posts…” was made up of 3 separate “full stops”

    in the 2nd “Remove Posts…” the … was made up on 1 character with “…” – I got this from quentin’s code – I do know that this character exists, but not sure where to find it on a normal keyboard

    i tried playing about with the code, but i don’t understand why that combination works – so its something to think about in the coding

    By andy on Jan 25, 2011 | Reply
  255. @Marcus

    Make sure to be logged in and on your facebook profile for this to work. I am not sure where you got this code but this is not the correct one. No wonder it did not work. The code is different then the one Quentin had posted. Here is the correct code-

    VERSION BUILD=1110311 RECORDER=FX
    SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
    SET !TIMEOUT 10
    SET !DIALOGMANAGER NO

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=title:Remove
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost
    WAIT SECONDS=2

    Follow the instructions I posted step by step and you should be ok. I had a typo in the steps so when you get to step 9 and 10 be sure to do step 10 first and then step 9 after. Let me know if this works now or not.

  256. @Marcus

    I am so sorry. I just checked and your code is correct. I really have no idea how this does not work :(

    I am so sorry. This is where I draw a blank. If you have followed all the steps correctly than this should work.

    Maybe try one more thing-

    You should have 3 tabs- Play/ Rec/ edit

    Click on the Rec tab and then click on record then click stop and then click save. Now continue from steps 5 on and tell me if this works.

  257. Yea I was clicking loop with like 200 as a max before too, but it stops looping when the question “Do you really want to delete this post?” comes up. It continues if i click “Yes” really fast but I don’t have the nerve to click “Yes” for every wall post I have :(

    By Sara on Jan 26, 2011 | Reply
  258. @Sara

    You should not have to click yes. When I deleted my wall posts the script did all the work for me and even clicked yes automatically. Are you waiting and giving the computer a chance to catch up and click yes or are you clicking yes right away? If this is the case then you need to give the computer a chance to catch up.

    When I record deleting a few posts from my profile and then add the script, THAT’s when the thing with the “Do you really want to delete this post?”-thing messes everything up.
    When I delete everything in the Edit macro pop-up-window and then add Quentin’s script, nothing happens. It’s running 200 times (max) but not a single wall post disappears.

    Please make sure your facebook is set to US facebook settings. I just got done with Marcus and it turns out he is not from the US so his facebook was in another language. The script only knows English so if you are from outside the US set your facebook settings to US and then try back again. Let me know how this works out

  267. hey can you help me i copyied this

    VERSION BUILD=1110311 RECORDER=FX

  268. Do I have to do rec, stop, save each time I have to delete wall posts? also when I do that, and click on “save” it says Java application error. how to I fix that? it still is not deleting anything for me.

    By Debbie on Jan 26, 2011 | Reply
  269. @Auph
    I see. You made sure to set your facebook settings to US English? If you do not live in the US you need to set facebook for US or else this will not work. Let me know if this is not the case.

    @Marc
    what steps did you have trouble with? Be sure to click the record tab and then do rec/ stop/ save and continue from there to copy the script. Let me know how this works out for ya.

    @Debbie
    You should not have to do record/ stop/ save each time. Just find the file in the list and right click and add the code. I have never gotten a java error so I would have to check and see what that is. Also did you make sure to set your settings to US English? Also make sure you are on your profile page for this to work. Let me know how you make out.

  270. I got this working but needed to change

    TXT:RemovePost…

    to

    TXT:RemovePost…

  273. ok so here is what I have figured. So many people have been messaging me that they need help and seeing as how the problems are similar then I will only be able to help you if I can see what you are doing in person. I found a program that you can download that allows me to see your computer while you are on it. You download the program and I can view your screen and everything you are doing. Then once I am done doing the script and helping you just disconnect the program and I will no longer have access to see your computer.

    If this sounds like something you would like the name of the program is called teamviewer and I have been using it to help others on here who need the help.

    If interested send me a comment here and we can set something up. Or just send me a facebook message by clicking on my name and you should get the page.

  274. If the person is running Windows 7 there is a Screen Recorder built into the OS. The user can goto start and type in PSR.exe and record a session and upload the results to you via email/ftp. The video will show u what the user saw and what keystrokes where done, etc…

    Another option that is a little scary as installing a 3rd party tool is to use the native ‘Windows Remote Assistance’.

  276. This thread has been awesome. I have followed all the suggestions but I am stuck with one thing, the loop.

    For whatever reason, the macro only runs through its steps once and then stops or gets hung up. Do I need to add something at the end of the script to make it work or is this in iMacro issue?

    By Panayioti on Jan 28, 2011 | Reply
  277. hi John,
    do you have a code for deleting comments from a fb group?, i tried the code above and it dont work on a group.

    By Dee on Jan 28, 2011 | Reply
  278. Here you go-

    Click Profile > Edit Profile > Activities and Interests> Show other pages and then use this code:
    http://pastebin.com/CHns5QB4

    remeber to use only the second part of the code not the top half.

  279. @Panayioti

    Hi what happened with the loop? Did you change your max to some higher number? Also did you hit play loop or just play?

  280. @John

    When running the macro the sequence runs once. When I set the loop number to 3, 5, 10, 20 whatever number, then hit play loop, the script sequence runs just once. It is as though somewhere, either with the script or in the download of the plug in (should note I am using Firefox on a Mac) that the loop is not being activated.

    So regardless of whether I simply run the script once or use the loop, the script is only running once.

    By panayioti on Jan 30, 2011 | Reply
  281. @Panayioti

    Did you make sure your facebook settings are set to English US? This is key or else the script may not work.

  282. Yes, setting are in English. I am here in the States.

    I did a simple test with the script, eliminating all the “remove posts” and instructing the script to just activate the “Older Post” link at the bottom of the Facebook page. When I changed the loop to 15, it processed once and then nothing – almost like it doesn’t know it should repeat.

    I went back through this thread and even the links to Pastebin to ensure that my script was correct and I am not finding any errors.

    By panayioti on Jan 30, 2011 | Reply
  283. The only other thing I can do is have you take a look at a program called teamviewer which allows me to see your screen and everything you are doing so I can correct you if you are doing it right or not. Because I am not in front of your computer I cannot tell what the exact problem is unless I can see your screen.

    This program allows me to see everything on your computer but of course you have to confirm that it is ok and when you are done close the program and I will no longer have access to seeing your screen. Then just uninstall this program from your computer and you should be fine. I have been using it for quite some time now helping other people here and the program is great. Only if you feel confortable to do so. The site is teamviewer.com

    If not then I can take a look once more and see that I did not miss anything I told you. Let me know if interested

  284. I should have added- You got the script to activate the older post link at the bottom of the page? How did you do that? The script that I used from this forum did not have an activate older post so I had to keep clicking on older post the whole time to refresh my posts.

  285. @John

    The suggestion was made by someone in this thread, but I moved it to the beginning of the script so it would do more deleting. Here is what I the script looks like.

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=TXT:OlderPosts
    WAIT SECONDS=5
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=title:Remove
    WAIT SECONDS=1
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    WAIT SECONDS=2
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost
    WAIT SECONDS=2

  286. Well I can see that you were using an older code and the code has since then been updated to work with the new facebook profiles. Here is the current code. If it does not work then let me know-

    VERSION BUILD=1110311 RECORDER=FX
    SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
    SET !TIMEOUT 10
    SET !DIALOGMANAGER NO

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=title:Remove
    WAIT SECONDS=0

  287. I wanted to use the script to delete ONLY my “recent activity” posts, not my status updates or posts by other people. I’m not a scripter, but I figured out that if I removed lines 9 and 10 from the above script, it would skip over any posts by other people—the ones that require the additional step of selecting from a dropdown list whether you want to remove the post, report as spam, or report abuse. To my amazement, it worked! However…the script is still deleting my OWN posts in addition to my “recent activities.” I don’t want it to delete my own posts, but in studying the source code of the Facebook page, it appears that the code to delete one’s own posts is identical to the code for deleting recent activities. In other words, I can’t find any unique attribute that would select the Recent Activity posts but not my own. Any suggestions? Remember, I’m not a scripter, so please be explicit. (BTW, I didn’t use John’s code directly above as my starting point, I used the 1/6/2011 code on pastebin.)

  289. Hi John, I am using Imacros Version 7.0.3.0 (Not sure how to find build number, I am not a programmer just very annoyed with FB Groups and urgently need them deleting)

    Do you have code for deleting all FB Groups that will work as of today please? I have read through all posts and rinsed Google and no luck.. this is so annoying as have many groups I actually want to join yet cannot get rid of the old groups I joined because i really didnt even know what a group was when i first joined Facebook… also fed up of the endless spam and would like to have more select and relevant groups…

    P.S. I tried the original given before comments from users on this page with new build number Under Version Build line and still no luck….

  290. John,

    Once again, the problem isn’t with getting the script to run. The script doesn’t seem to work. Yes, I’ve followed your steps, I didn’t need a walkthrough on how to use the application. For whatever reason, the script quentin provided, and your recent minuscule edit does not work sufficiently.

    Sara describes a problem much like mine, however my facebook is set to US, as I am from the US. I’m beginning to think that iMacros simply isn’t the software necessary for this application. I’ll venture towards a Greasemonkey script….

  291. Please post any new code for mass deleting FB groups we need it!!!

    Thanks :)

  292. @john

    Thank you for the script update. This one works much better.

    However, I like the last person, am beginning to think there is an issue with iMacros and how it works with Mac’s. The script runs through, does its thing, and then after the Input Button is activated, the script stops. This happens ever time I select the Play (Loop) button.

    So either way, I can only get the script to run once, then much stop it, and select play again. My issue is still and remains the loop.

    I have even ventured into the iMacro forum but have not found anything that relates to this specific task. Frustrating.

    Thank you again for your assistance.

    I will have to take a look at the code and see what I can do or if there is another way I can change the code to work for you. I know basics of working with code but I myself and not the greatest. I will get back to you on that.

    @Tom
    if you can’t delete anything before 2007 then it has to be a facebook thing not something with the code because you did say you tried manually and it did not work. There really is nothing I can do with the code that can help. The best thing is to try again or find a way to contact facebook and tell them your problem with 2007. Because the 2007 facebook was different then todays facebook although I have no idea why it would not work. Are you getting an error message of some sort when you try to delete your posts? If so what is that message?

    @Craig
    Here is the instructions and code for removing facebook groups-

    Click Profile > Edit Profile > Activities and Interests> Show other pages and then use this code:
    http://pastebin.com/CHns5QB4

    Also what do you mean by build number?

    @Josh
    Are you on a PC or a mac? I have to try a mac and see if I can get it to work. But at my place I have a PC which did the trick. I can see the problem you seem to be having as the script is beginning to work but then it stops randomly. Keep in mind that mac users have had problems with this program and still I have no knowledge why mac would not work the same with the program.

    @networkman
    If you need to delete mass facebook groups follow the steps I gave to @craig posted in this update and if this does not work then let me know.

    @panayioti
    I have recieved multiple complaints from people saying that the program is not working for mac. I will give this a try on my mac and see what happens or if I can get this to work. Someone else here suggested a program similar called greasemonkey. You can check that out or just wait for an update on me if I get this to work for a mack or not.

    Sorry everyone. I am not the greatest with all this stuff but I will keep updating on how the script works. I am in the process of trying this for mac and can check and update if this works.

  294. Hi John, many thanks I shall try this if my groups should ever build up again if FB do not solve the problem first, which with all the complaints id imagine it is on their agenda…

    What I meant by build number is exactly what I said.. build number… this is the first line in Cynthia’s code…

    I have since used Greasemonkey and was much less hassle worked first time… however it did not mass delete just saved page refreshing and in effect allowing the leave group crosses/buttons to work as tick boxes… hot refresh at the end and all gone…

  295. Also thr Profile etc path you gave does not lead to Groups.. are you sure this will work? Why not just go to the Groups App?

    Im one for SIMPLE solutions.. i do not get off on reams of code

  296. Thank you for your reply John but i think this code work for FB pages and not for FB groups

    Thanks :)

  297. Here’s a macro for getting rid of groups

    VERSION BUILD=1110311 RECORDER=FX
    SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
    SET !TIMEOUT 10

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=ID:u*
    WAIT SECONDS=1
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:remove&&VALUE:Remove

  299. @craig & @networkman

    I seem to have mis lead you guys. Yes you were right the code I gave works for facebook pages that you want to mass unsubscribe/ delete from. It does not work for groups. I always get the 2 confused and plus I rarely use groups so I only had like 10 which I manually un-subscribed myself from. I will keep hunting for more codes to update everyone on and in the mean time if greasemonkey seems better then keep using it. I personally have not used it but will give it a try and keep everyone updated.

  300. Many thanks for your honesty John, I shall use Greasemonkey I think moving forward. Take care.

  301. Thanks you for reply John you are really great!

  302. Argh. My facebook wall deletion code somehow just doesnt work. Can somebody post a new code or does the old one still work but its the user who did something wrong? :D I used to get all my facebook wall posts gone, but now it’s just counting seconds and not doing anything :/

    I would certaintly be able to help with that. No problems. I understand. What I need you to do is download a program called teamviewer which can be downloaded on their site teamviewer.com

    Once you have downloaded this get back to me on a good time or day we can meet so I can help you.

    @craig
    @networkman
    Anytime. No problem. I you need any help with anything else let me know. From what I see @anon has posted the script for getting rid of groups if you look a few comments before this one you will see the code. I guess you could try it with greasemonkey although it says for imacros. Let me know if that works or not

  304. Hey There, I am wondering if anyone has an imacro script that can go in my facebook and return all my pokes. It kills my hand to return them all and soon as I am done there is more then I started with. My list of pokes is probably double long as my wall stories. So any help with a script to do that would be awesome. thanks

    The script works just fine. If you are using firefox and imacros then what seems to be the problem? If you followed all the steps I need to know exactly what is happening when you hit play so I can better assist you. Is there some sort of error message you are getting? Also I know I have said this a number of times before but make sure your facebook is set to english US or else the script will not work.

    @Mr. Right
    I will play around with the script a little bit and see what can be done but I am not so sure if you can return a poke without going to the individuals page and clicking poke. I will see what I can come up with and if something comes up I will update the code for you.

  306. @everyone using mac with imacros-
    I am sorry to say but I am not having any luck with imacros on a mac. I downloaded the program to my macbook but did not get the program to work at all. Yet when I go on my windows PC it works with no problems. My guess is that imacros does not work for mac unless someone can post something that they got it to work. Again sorry. Here is what happened on the macbook-

    I open imacros and click the rec tab. I click record and then stop. But when I hit stop nothing happens except I get the following error message-

    cannot open null path to read macros. Would you like to correct path settings now?

    Has anyone else gotten this or a similar message? At first I clicked no on the message but got nothing. Then I clicked yes on my second time of opening imacros and I clicked to apply settings but it gave me an error. So as I said my guess for mac users is that imacros does not work. You can try greasemonkey and see if this program is any better. I am in class now over in the mac lab so i will try to download the program for mac here in school and see if there is any difference or if it works fine or not.

  307. @john

    I hit play on the delete all wall posts, it seems like it is running at the side but nothing actually happens on my wall. Does the script delete the posts oldes>newest or newest?oldest. If it is the latter, then im afraid it’s not working for me (on a windows pc not mac) I would appreciate some help. I go to my profile (where my wall is) and click play, is this correct? am i doing somehting wrong?

  308. Hey John, I recieved the same error when I ran the program on my MacBook, but then trying it on my PC, it works perfectly. The only problem I have is, when deleting posts as far back as last April, it takes a while to load the posts when refreshing the page which will cause Imacros to stop the program, what i did was set the wait time to 60 seconds so i can load a whole bunch of posts from the past so imacros won’t stop. The other problem I’m having is, how can I delete multiple posts when I have to actually click the “x” button and click “remove post” and then “remove post” again? These postings usually consists of other people’s comments and application postings. I just find myself doing it manualy and it takes forever. I was wondering if there was a code for that?

    By JOSHUA on Feb 4, 2011 | Reply
  309. Wait… doesn’t imacros support mac as well? Why the problems?

    On their website that’s what it says:
    http://www.iopus.com/iMacros/firefox/

    “Download iMacros for Firefox (Win, Mac, Linux)”

    Maybe this is something that should be brought to attention on the iMacros forum.

    By Rita on Feb 4, 2011 | Reply
  310. @John Doe
    The posts should go in order of how they are on your page. So it starts from the first one on the list and deletes on down going until it reaches older posts which is where you need to click older posts. Your best bet is to click older posts and keep clicking before starting to run the script. When you are done clicking older posts that nothing else loads then hit play loop and you should be un-interrupted. Also if you followed the directions correctly and added the code where I told you to add it then you should be doing everything correctly. Let me know if you still cannot get things to work.

    @JOSHUA
    The problem you have is that you are running imacros and clicking older posts at the same time. This is ok but every time imacros tries to delete something it will just go to the top of your page no matter what you are doing. You should not have to keep clicking X or remove post. What you do is set the wait time to 0. Then before starting the play loop go down to the bottom of your page and keep clicking older posts until facebook has no older posts to load. So you do the older posts clicking before you do anything else or else imacros will interupt you and just not work as good. Then once you have clicked and clicked on older post and nothing else loads then hit play loop and imacros will do the rest without you having to do anything. I know this sounds like a huge pain in the you know but it was the only way I could get this to work. If you set wait time to 60 that will just take hours and hours maybe even a day or two before it is done deleting. But clicking remove post and then setting wait time to 0 like I said should take off all this waiting and once you start running the play loop it should be done within an hour or so. Let me know how this works out for you.

  311. @Rita
    This is exactly what I was thinking until I tried it for mac and it did not work. It seems others here are having the same problem when trying for mac. But windows works with no problems. I would just contact the imacrors forum like you said and see. I have been trying to fix this problem with luck so far. I will try again and see what happens.

  312. @john

    could you mail me and help me to remove my wallposts. i dont get any of the suggestions/scripts to work.

    i could use teamviewer so that you could see if i have made anything wrong.
    i hope you can help me. peace out.

  313. hi guys,

    first at all: thank you very much for dealing with all these requests.

    now it’s my turn as well… i tried your script and it’s not working as it is supposed to do.
    it just removes the “people you may know” section instead of my posts… why? and how can i make the script working on my posts?
    which means, it worked for about 5 posts, maybe less.

    I think teamviewer is the way to go. For now add me on my facebook and we can set up a good time to work with this so I can show you how to do it or correct any mistakes you may have.

    @BerserK
    Be sure you are on your facebook profile and not your facebook news feed home page. If you are on your profile then let me know. Also you would need to set your max tom something like 1000 so that you can get it to remove more then just 5 posts or something. Let me know how this whole thing works out.

  315. I should have mentioned that my facebook URL is johnnyr860
    If you click on my name here to the side in red you should be able to get my URL but I should have mentioned that there is a facebok bug/ virus going around and facebook seems to be taking their sweet time to get rid of it. I have had over half my pictures deleted without me doing anything and half the time facebook chat is down. Other users from my friends have mentioned reports of having the same problem so I can still help you but sorry if facebook is acting up and does not work.

  316. @ John
    thanks for your fast response. i am on my profile (when i’m on “home” it tries to delete my events, already tried it ;))
    and what do you mean with “max tom 1000″? the loop? set it to 100, but anyway it tries to delete the people of the “people you may know” section. it doesn’t do anything because the buttons have different names so it just opens the first one and then it’s running crazy…

    I copied the most current code into my macro thing following the steps.
    i go to my facebook profile page where it shows all my wall.
    I run the loop and the script thing seems to be running and loops BUT nothing happends on my FB page. FB is set to US English or whatever. I see the macro repeat and count, but there is nothing happening on my FB page. help would be appreciated.

    what do you mean your buttons have different names? Did you make sure to change facebook settings to english US? and yes the loop is the number of posts you want to delete. So if you add 100 like you did it should remove them. If you add 1000 then it should remove 1000 posts. If your facebook settings are set to english US then let me know so we can try something else.

  319. guys this doesn’t work for me (FF 3.6.13+Imacros+http://pastebin.com/RAuWwvYq)
    It doesn’t do anything :(

    Any new Ideas?

  320. @ john:
    about different names of the buttons it’s because it dosn’t take the “removve” from my post instead it takes from “people you might know”.
    so it’s not “removepost…” it is “why are you removing this?” with different options.
    that’s what i mean.

    as i said, the script itself is working but tries to delte the people section on the right side instead the posts in the middle.

    any ideas?

    i also have to say, if i scroll with my cursor on the “x” of the post it doesn’t show me “remove” as it does on my “home” or other things which you can delete.

    is there something else i can name it?

    @BerSerk
    I am not really sure. Have you been having facebook problems out of the normal recently? By that I mean has facebook been acting up for you? Facebook is currently expieriencing a virus/ bug that some person posted on their site and now multiple users (including myself) are having problems with their profile and things not showing up as they should. Posts have not been displaying as they should and I did have a problem with half my pictures getting deleted. I have no idea why it does not show remove as it should be there. Try the code I just posted above as it is the most current one I could find and works for me. Let me know if you still have the same problems.

  324. @ John

    i tried your last posted one. doesn’t work either way i try.
    it works when i manually press the “x” and with the rest (remove post… –> remove post) it goes through.

    so i guess i just have to wait until my “x” gets the name “remove” back… fb is crap.
    i just tried it in different browsers to be sure and in none of them does “x” has a name.

    i tried to leave it blank (“title=”) and also tried with space (“title= “) it’s not working at all.

    ps: i don’t have any other problems with fb

  325. EDIT:

    ok, just checke with a friends account.
    it shows “remove post” for normal posts.
    but not for the bloody farmville posts on my wall. that’s why it doesn’t delete them.
    any idea how farmville posts (or gamingposts in general) work?

  326. This is the one I’m using and works 100% with latest version of FB (In English) and latest version of IMacros. I didn’t find a way to create a loop in iMacros, ro I repeated the delete of posts a few times before going to Older Posts.

    Hope it helsp

    I do not generally use farmville as much as I used to but I know that when you click on the X you are given the option to remove that specific post or posts from that application.

    All I can say is that facebook is so messed up for me right now I am thinking of getting a new account and starting again because not even my games work! Farmville has been loading for the past half hour despite me refreshing the page a number of times and such.

    I am not sure why you are not seeing the X to remove posts from your profile. You should see it because when I tried to remove my farmville posts from my profile just a few minutes ago I was able to click the X. Is farmville/ game posts the only ones you cannot remove? Or are you having trouble with certain wall posts too? Also is it still trying to delete the people you may know section or did it fix this?

  329. @BerSerk
    The script does not work because of that facebook virus I told you about. Not even I can remove my posts and it seems multiple people here cannot remove their posts. The remove button has been removed from my facebook profile and the X is no longer an option for me to remove my posts. The only thing we can do is wait for slow facebook team to respond and fix the issue. I can try to change the code but do not garuntee it will work any better then now.

  330. @ John:

    I think a few posts on my wall were deleted by your amazing script.
    I can see the “x” for the FarmVille posts but there’s no name behind it (if you scroll with your curser to the x you see a little pop-up with the name/function remove, this just doesn’t appear). the people you may know section is empty now, lol, so it doesn’t try to delete them :)

    on my facebook is everything working fine, so i’ll wait until i can see a name for the farmville posts again. it’s the only crap i don’t want to have on my profile and i just forgot it the last weeks to delete straight after posting…

    Hi I finally got greesemonkey downloaded but I am not sure how it works. Could you please explain? I am not sure where to put in your code

  336. John, my computer didn’t work for a while but now i’m back.
    ..and it still isn’t working. I’ll explain how I do it, and you tell me what i’m doing wrong.

    first of all, I change the settings to English (US)
    I go to my wall
    then I click rec -> record -> stop -> save.
    I name the file “deleting wall posts”.
    then I go to Edit macro, delete everything, and paste in quentins script.

    then I set the max to 100 something, and click Play (Loop).
    and nothing happens. I see that the script is running because iMacros is working, but not a single wall post is being deleted.

    ?? :(

  337. @Sara

    We are all scratching our heads. The script stopped working period and I tried changing it up and all and it did not work. Facebook is sneeky and they know when people try to use things like imacros so there is a chance that facebook disabled the code.

    Also facebook has a number of site issues that have been going on for months now with numerous user complaints and facebook has not responded or fixed these problems. My guess is that until they fix these problems the script may not work. I know some people who tried a different script that worked for a little bit but the next day when they tried again the script had stopped working.

    If I do find a working script I will post it here. Sorry for the delay but I too am unable to delete posts :(

  338. Hello everyone. I read all the comments several times but still not manage to delete all groups at once. If anyone, which was successful, can be kind and make a video how it works and post it on Youtube… I think it would be easier for many, not just me … Thanks in advance.

  340. Hey everyone,
    I found a way to “clear” your wall, it’s not the straight forward way, but infect works perfect:

    http://pastebin.com/4hshZnyw

    Be aware that the X/Y values are from my screen, you have to find the right values by single recording the clicks and reset them.

    When using firefox-addon of iMacros, you can have an unsolved bug that stops loading anything, so I installed the ReloadEvery Extension to – for insurance – reloads the page every 60 seconds.

    One thing I found out, is that facebook can somehow prevent a clicking of the “older entries” after long time of deleting wall entries, but i am not sure yet.

    Please ask if you have any questions regarding my script.

  342. Hi Noah- What do you mean when you say single recording the clicks and reset them?

  343. thanks anon, it works perfectly!

    By noname on Feb 21, 2011 | Reply
  344. ähm… when u go in iMacros AddOn for firefox to “Edit” and “Preferences” you have under the javascript-section a button to set the way your click are saved. You have to X/Y-Settings, what means iMacros just saves the X/Y position of your mouse and repeats a click at exactly this spot.

    ATTENTION: Do not use the “Visual Effect” to highlight objects, because it will shift single things on your wall down

    Now u need the X/Y-coords for
    - the cross (x) for the first and second click of the remove post (take care, there’s two different positions (at my wall)
    - The “Remove post” button (again 2 different positions)
    - the “Older Entries” Button

    Just get them with recording a new File with iMacro.

    I made some screen shots and combined a “drawing” with all 4 different clicks needed for me.
    I am using German language in facebook, I hope you do not mind and can see which differences I mean!

    This works in firefox, I did not try else!

    I use to use Imacro’s till of course Facebook changed the way of their servers yet again.

    These posts are a bit confusing, some are persons pasting their scripts that are not working, some are pasting part and parcels of their scripts

    I am in the UK so therefore my FB settings are in the UK. I am wondering if John could give me a link to the update Imacro that WORKS or help me to edit it I use to use Cynthia’s old script so that’s the latest script I’ve used.

  356. i have tried like 15 of these suggestions, and none of them have worked. is there something i am doing wrong? any help would be great

  357. Still cannot delete any wall postings. I done the record. stop, save, named the file, edited the imi file(or what ever it is called) copied and pasted the correct code, and then put in the number of times I wanted the loop to run, and it sure does run fast, but after it ran the x amount of times I wanted it to run, my front page posts were still there. Does it run from the older posts first?

  358. Hello, I just realized that the scripts might have to be different for everyone’s wall because of the fact that the clicks that you have to do are different for statuses and wall posts by others. If someone writes on your wall, when you click on the “X” there will be multiple commands to choose from and when you click “Remove Posts…” there is another “Remove Post”. Then it gets removed. When it is a status update, when you click on the “X” you will just get one “Remove Post” then it will be removed. Hopefully this will help all of you in your script-making.

    This is the most recent working model, Just be sure to input your own data for everything denoted withing the XXX’s… You can run it on Firefox and IE if you offset the wait times after it loads your profile page. I.E. Wait 5 seconds while running on IE and 15 seconds while running on Firefox, otherwise both instances will delete the same things. Sometimes it will get hung up and won’t remove any wall posts. Just go to you profile page manually and delete a few random things to scramble the order and it should resume normal operation. Hope this helps someone.

  375. I have used this script in the past and when it works, it worked well. I use the latest “released” version of firefox as well as the latest beta on a fully patched XP system. When I couldn’t get this script to work I tried another that someone on this thread posted a link to. The other script uses greasemonkey but doesn’t use iMacros and it can be found at http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/97794.

    This other script worked for me and removed the posts much, much faster than this one.

  393. Hello,

    In response to Derrick’s post, the one limitation of the IMACROS scripts, and the reason I wrote FUFB is that it does not delete comments or posts made on your friends’ postings or walls. It will remove the *notice* that you made a comment from your feed, but the comment or post itself remains.

    Anyhow, I work on FUFB in my spare time and am continually adding features. If you are interested in checking it out take a look at http://fufb.me/ and let me know.

  394. To clarify – the IMACROS scripts do not delete posts or comments on your friends’ walls or postings. FUFB does this.

  395. So, I have been hitting the imacros area for a while on getting all my facebook wall stuff out of there, and I found the right stuff for clearing my wall.

    I was having trouble because of how some of the items are deleted. On soem of them you have to click the x, wait for the submenu to load, and then click delete. With the macro below it waits one second for that submenu to load before the delete post function is activated. This way it works on all posts. Insert your username into the links where it says, “USER”.

    By david on May 1, 2011 | Reply
  399. This script removes all groups, it stopped a couple of times on me but you just start again and it works.

    You must be at your “view all groups” screen to make this work.

    VERSION BUILD=7210419 RECORDER=FX

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:remove&&VALUE:Remove

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:RemovePost

    If it doesnt work, just try and change the “TAG POS” numbers accordingly to first and second post on your wall. You can find that out by trying it and recording it. Also change your name, but leave # there.
    Good luck!

  429. So, after playing for a couple of hours and trying all of the posts, nothing was working. I finally figured out what I was doing though. I just recorded three separate scripts – the first hitting the little X button, the second hitting the pop up menu’s remove post link, and the third hitting the big remove post button. I then combined them into one script in order: 1-2-3. When I ran it, this worked on the first post then stopped working. So, I pt a small delay between each step and it works like a champ. In fact it’s running in another browser right now. Here’s the final script (with an error statement just in case). And, I’m running an iMac and the browser the script is running in is Google Chrome.

  432. Do you have a macro to delete messages? My site is filled with old messages and there are no way to delete them. That would be a well used macro. Lots of people are posting question on “deleting messages on Face book” on Google, and no one seems to know how.

  433. Folks, I just figured it out and it isn’t too hard but there is some work involved in doing it if you’re not willing to click each one by hand.

    I made a note on facebook about this if you want to read it.. Actually I JUST made it to help everyone out.. Questions about it? Let me know.

I deleted all my posts on facebook but when my friend comes to my wall she sees my posts on someone else’s status, but I don’t see it and can’t delete. Is there any solution for this?

  439. Firstly go to m.facebook.com. Change the page style on Firefox View> Page Style > No Style.

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:RemovePost…

I was actually reading your older post on deleting comments from facebook because I had a post on my facebook (fanbook) page that had a severe error and I couldn’t get rid of it. Finally I went to the status area and clicked on “posts by everyone most recent/ by everyone” and by changing that, I finally was able to get my post deleted with the proper confirmation message. 491. its really simple to create your own, just download and install iMacros.

    Click record on the left panel at the bottom.

    delete a wallpost, click yes. then press f5.

    then you click stop.

    OR

    this is my code:

    to use this code, just edit an existing macro or press record then stop to create a new one, right click the macro and click edit.

    paste this code, click save and close. then click play:

    Be sure to change your facebook username in the code.

    VERSION BUILD=7401110 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1
    URL GOTO=https://www.facebook.com/YOURUSERNAME
    TAG POS=5 TYPE=I ATTR=CLASS:mrsimgsp_bz5ix3sx_269362
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:DeletePost…
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:DeletePost
    REFRESH
    TAG POS=5 TYPE=I ATTR=CLASS:mrsimgsp_bz5ix3sx_269362
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:DeletePost…
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:DeletePost

    when you click play, down the bottom of the panel it should say loop.

    change the ‘max number’ to 100, i would do 100 at a time just for safety. then click play loop.

    dont be scared to experiment.

  493. Aaron.

    Everyones code above including my own will not work because we have different things on our walls.

    iMacro is not programming, it is just work you have previously done, recorded.

    iMacro only recognizes what you have recognized.

    It doesnt follow commands, it follows YOUR Commands.

    the only way it will truly work is if you create your own by using the record tool.

  494. Victor: yeah, I tried doing my own command as well, recording my own action and it didn’t work either. Sadness.

  501. One-click bookmarklet script for wiping out your facebook wall. It’s working at the moment but I’m not sure it works with Timeline yet. I’ll have to check.

    http://github.com/grekker/Facebook-Wallcrusher

    Probably a bit easier than the macro route, and certainly faster. It’s AJAX-based.

  502. This works with the Timeline, but you have to change your useragent so that Facebook thinks that you are using Internet Explorer 7 while you’re really using Firefox.

    Unfortunately, Facebook only allows about 6-months of posts to be shown in “Internet Explorer 7″ mode, aka pre-Timeline, so this script doesn’t get all of the posts when using as explained above.

  503. So…here’s what I did and so far, it is working well.

    First and foremost, you need to go to your wall and HIDE any recent activity that shows up except for profile picture changes. The easiest way to do this is to just keep clicking “Older Posts” and using the menu pull downs to hide the activity.

    When that is done, you can either create the deletion macro on your own or use the below; remember to substitute your Facebook profile name where it says, “YOURNAMEHERE”….

    VERSION BUILD=7401110 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1
    URL GOTO=https://www.facebook.com/YOURNAMEHERE
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=I ATTR=CLASS:mrsdefaultIconcustomimgimgsp_78bswxsx_2a2a1c
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:DeletePost…
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:BUTTON ATTR=NAME:ok&&VALUE:DeletePost

    Now, run the macro by using the “Play Loop” button. Set the max to whatever you like; I have it at 500, myself (yes, I have a lot of FB posts).

    This will not delete posts where you were tagged, BUT it will skip those and still hit the others. It will delete pretty much all posts – status updates, links, photos, etc. When all is said and done, your wall will be nearly cleared of everything and what remains will likely not take long to remove manually.

    If you have a lot of wall posts from others along the way, the macro may stop even though you’ve told it to loop umpteen times. Not a problem; just manually remove the offending posts and start the macro again. (This happened to me around my birthday; the page simply filled up with posts the macro could not take action on….)

  508. this is nice idea,
    i like this because some time most of spammers and users post naked pics on wall so it become hard to delete.
    but now it is easy.

  509. Can´t believe this post since more than 2 years and only you have to do is that :

    http://www.mockbox.net

    Search “FB Wall Cleaner”

    This is a simple “how to” explanation video :
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml6_4fHs9lI

    Remember you can choose from delete posts after the 1st, 5th or 20th.
    After deleted, obvius they´re gonne.

    And try to remember my tip when Mr. Zuck reaches his U$1 trillion not trying to make FB cool. (or cooler then Orkut)
    Hope you all got it.

  514. I used the script provided by Tom in #comment-3030 above and it worked great – everything is wiped, BUT ONLY if I view my page with m.facebook.com in Firefox. In Safari and on the regular http://www.facebook.com URL the content is still visible after over 24 hours. How is this possible?

  515. Here’s something that works for Timeline users (hopefully). I’m currently trying this, and it appears to be working.

    First, visit
    http://www.fbwallcleaner.com/?page_id=394
    Download the extension that changes your profile back to the “old” version. If you still have the “old” version, I suppose you can skip this step.

    Next, visit this website and copy the bookmarklet code. If you’re using Chrome, check to make sure that it pasted the “javascript:” at the beginning when you paste it into the URL bar.

    https://github.com/grekker/Facebook-Wallcrusher

    Visit your profile. It should be the “old” layout.

    Paste that code into the URL bar on your profile page and go get a coffee or beer.

  516. Did this work for you Samuel?

  517. If Tom’s solution doesn’t work sometimes, it’s because the button “leave group” in the dialog (“pop up”) is not always exactly at the same position, so you’ll need to set 2 clicks : one at the top of the button, and one at the bottom of the button.

    Sorry for my bad english (I’m french ^^). Hope I helped some of you.

  518. Hello,
    I wondered if you might be able to answer my question please: any advise will be more than welcome and most helpful.
    I am a member of Admin on a FB group and we are trying to delete wall photos (there are over 5000!!) I am desperately looking for a way to delete multiple photos in bulk as we are spending hours of our free time to delete manually and its only a chip out of it. Would iMacros work for what we want to do, if so how and if not are you able to suggest something?
    Thank you in advance

  519. I have shared several similar imacros scripts for Facebook on my website for free.
    Feel free to browse http://www.bestmacros.com/storepage1539521.aspx

  520. Does anyone have a working code?

  521. For the new FB timeline, go to your profile > Activity Log > the section you want to scrub, say, “Your Posts”
    Open iMacros > Rec > Record > click on the pencil edit icon for the top post and select “Delete” and click “Delete” in the dialog that pops up. > Stop [macro]

    Now, Edit > Edit Macro > remove the URL command but keep the rest. Add the SET and WAIT commands, and a REFRESH at the end.

    VERSION BUILD=8300326 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1

    SET !ERRORIGNORE YES
    SET !TIMEOUT 1000
    WAIT SECONDS=0.25

    TAG POS=1 TYPE=I ATTR=CLASS… << Set loop to a largish number — 300, maybe? — and Play Loop.

  525. I was able to delete photos, but the text of the photo still remains and is searchable. I tried DELETING POSTS, but I’m stuck at the pop up box that wants you to confirm the DELETE.

    The form name changes. This is an example

    VERSION BUILD=8810214 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1
    URL GOTO=<<>>>
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=A ATTR=ID:u_0_2b
    TAG POS=2 TYPE=SPAN ATTR=TXT:DeletePost
    TAG POS=1 TYPE=BUTTON:SUBMIT FORM=ID:u_c_1 ATTR=TXT:Delete

    It gets stuck at the pop up that says “Delete Post Are you sure you want to delete this post?” Then there’s the blue Delete button.

    Errors with: RuntimeError: element BUTTON specified by TXT:Delete was not found, line 6 (Error code: -921)

    My scripting knowledge is pretty limited, so I’m not sure what syntax to use to simulate the clicking of that “Delete” button so the loop can continue.

    I’m an admin of a big group and need to clean up the wall by not only deleting photos, but buy deleting the entire post. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

This site is meant to do 2 simple things: give me a writing outlet (for topics that don't fit on my other websites), and help you solve a problem that I have already solved. I may start posting stuff relating to personal growth, marketing experiments, and product reviews. We'll see.

Unfortunately I stopped posting on Facebook years ago, so I can't test any iMacros scripts on there. I did have 2 accounts purely for testing but Facebook disabled *both* of them (frowns). Well, thanks for stopping by!
